West Point Society of Annapolis Founders Day

Category: Society News

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the West Point Society of Annapolis (WPSOA) celebrated its 39th annual Founders Day. The event was held at Café Mezzanotte in Severna Park, MD, and 35 WPSOA members and guests attended.

Following the Benny Havens hour, President Steve Heinecke ’77 began the traditional toasts before the guests went through the “Taste of Tuscany” buffet line. The Superintendent’s video was shown after dinner, and the oldest grad, Henry Riser ’68, and youngest grad, Devlin Winkelstein ’06, provided brief commentary on the Corps and their experiences. A brief WPSOA business meeting followed, which included a summary of the WPSOA’s 2024 income and expenses, membership status, and the planned 2025 Calendar of Events for guest consideration.

The evening culminated with WPAOG’s Bob Curran ’72 updating the guests on activities underway before introducing Mark Bieger ’91, WPAOG’s CEO and President, who discussed recent USMA updates and ongoing construction activity. The evening concluded with the singing of the Alma Mater. The purpose of our Founders Day celebration was to celebrate the founding of West Point in 1802. Society members and guests attended, including our guest speakers, Mark Bieger ’91 and his wife, Amy.
