The West Point Drill Team performed as part of the Santa Monica Veterans Appreciation event on the famous Santa Monica Pier on November 10. Through precision exhibition drill, they were able to both positively represent West Point and the Army along with their showing appreciation for local veterans.
The event was organized and attended by Mr. Sonki Hong ’93, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, and featured distinguished guests such as MG Del Rosso, Commanding General of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command, Secretary Diaz ’90, Deputy Under Secretary of the Army, and Mayor Davis, the mayor of Santa Monica. The event included an Army helicopter flyover, Army rock band, and was highlighted by the Drill Team performance. That same evening, the Drill Team had dinner with USMA graduates who are a part of the West Point Society of Los Angeles.
The following day, the drill team performed a new exhibition drill routine for a Veterans Day ceremony at Pepperdine University in Malibu. As part of the ceremony, the team executed numerous complicated sequenced moves that took focus and patience to put on a worthy show. The team also served as rifle guards for the posting of the colors. Through lunch and following the event, cadets were able to engage with guests and hear from veterans of all services about their careers.
