The New York State Regatta took place on April 20 at Fish Creek near Saratoga Springs, New York, in a field of 27 teams with over 150 entries. The Army Crew team won multiple medals, the Men’s team won the Points Trophy and placed second overall in the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships.
It was an overcast, cool day with headwinds that picked up throughout the day. The finals were pushed an hour early to avoid even worse winds forecasted for the afternoon. The team performed extremely well in its regional regatta. All boats made the grand (first) or petite (second) finals with multiple gold medal finishes, including the men’s varsity four A and men’s novice eight. The men’s varsity four B, women’s novice eight, and men’s novice four won silver. Bronze medals were awarded to the men’s varsity eight and men’s second varsity eight.
The team earned valuable racing experience, with most boats competing in heats in the morning and finals a few hours later. Such experience is critical for the team’s success at the upcoming Dad Vail National Championship, which will take place May 10 and 11.
