Every time class president Rolfe Arnhym ’53 returned to his Rockbound Highland and visited Crest Hall, he looked at all of the crests hanging on the walls and wondered why the crest for his class didn’t have a motto.

Arnhym learned that the tradition of creating a class motto along with a class crest did not start until 1958. He reached out to the class board and they thought adding a class motto was a great idea.

The board members brainstormed several ideas, but one motto struck a chord with the group.

“The one that seemed to resonate was ‘Ready To Lead,’” Arnhym said. “It seemed like the strongest and most impactful, and the way our class now wants to be remembered.”

With a new motto now established, Arnhym and the class collaborated with WPAOG Class Services and the WPAOG Creative Director to incorporate the motto into a updated class crest.

When Arnhym shared the new “Ready To Lead” motto and crest with his classmates, his message to them was “we were and we did.” According to Arnhym, the class has taken their new motto to heart.
