On May 4, 2023, the U.S. Military Academy welcomed Coach Mike Krzyzewski ’69 and celebrated the 17th Annual Mike Krzyzewski Teaching Character Through Sport Award at Washington Hall.
The Mike Krzyzewski Teaching Character Through Sport Award, or “Coach K Award” recognizes West Point athletes and coaches (sport educators) for their outstanding commitment to the development of noble character through athletic participation and leadership. Its recipients exemplify the Army Values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage both on-and-off the “fields of friendly strife.”
Six recipients were recognized from three divisions:
1. Corps Squad Coach: Coach Sean Saturnio of Army West Point Football
2. Corps Squad Cadet-Athlete: Cadet Marquel Broughton of Army West Point Football
3. Competitive Club Officer in Charge or Coach: Coach Amy Maxwell of Army West Point Triathlon
4. Competitive Club Cadet-Athlete: Cadet Mason Calbert of the Army West Point Water Polo
5. Company Athletics Sport Educator: CPT Joe Clegg of Company Athletics Submission Grappling
6. Company Athletics Cadet-Athlete: Cadet EC Presnell of Company Athletics Flag Football
