Army West Point Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Michelle Tumolo, CDT Brigid Duffy ’26, and CDT Allison Reilly ’26 earned a gold medal at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship after an undefeated run while representing the United States this past week in Hong Kong. Tumolo serves as an assistant coach on the staff, while Reilly and Duffy earned spots on the 22-woman roster this summer. Army was one of three programs that saw multiple athletes make the coveted squad, joining Northwestern and Boston College.
The squad opened the tournament with a dominating 33-0 victory over Germany to kick off pool play. Reilly netted four goals, and Duffy also scored. Returning against Puerto Rico, the Americans put together another complete performance with a resounding 28-4 triumph. Duffy netted a hat trick in the victory, while Reilly added a pair of goals to her ledger.
Pool play continued with the United States collecting a 29-1 win over the hosts in China. Reilly had her most productive performance of the tournament in the contest, racking up seven points through four goals and three assists. Duffy added two scores with a helper, as well. The final pool play contest saw a 34-2 victory over Israel, with both Duffy and Reilly securing a hat trick with three goals each.
The American side then matched up with Puerto Rico once again to begin the knockout stages, earning a 31-6 victory in the quarterfinals. The Cadets continued to contribute, with Duffy logging four goals while Reilly scored twice to go along with an assist. The United States again had no trouble the semifinals, trouncing Australia by a score of 33-1. Duffy added three tallies against the Australians while Reilly scored and assisted to help the USA reach the gold medal game.
In the championship match against Canada, Duffy started the scoring for the Americans, part of an eventual 7-0 run to begin the game. Duffy would add another goal and assist, while Reilly also got on the scoresheet with a goal, as the United States earned the world championship with a 23-6 victory over its neighbors to the north.
While logging three assists, Duffy scored 18 times in total, as Reilly tallied 17 goals with six assists across the tournament. It marked the sixth time in eight tries that the U.S. won the gold medal at the women’s junior level and the U.S. outscored its opponents 211-20 while winning all seven of its games in the tournament. Duffy will now turn her focus to the soccer pitch, as she is set to rejoin the Army Women’s Soccer squad, which has gotten off to a 3-1 start without their first-team All-Patriot League midfielder.
