Grads of the Ghost Army
It took 50 years to declassify their actions and another 28 years for its soldiers to get recognition for their role in World War II; however, on March 21, 2024 the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, popularly known as “The Ghost Army,” received the highest honor Congress bestows, a Congressional Gold Medal, an award first given to George Washington in 1776.

Richard Olson, who graduated as the Navy Goat’s goat (lowest rank at graduation) or “anchorman” in 1954, is the earliest documented service academy graduate to get one dollar from each classmate.

Army School Honors Two Special Forces Soldiers Including BG(R) Russel Volckmann ’34
Fort Bragg’s John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June for two buildings named in honor of two of the most famous Green Berets in Army history.

Notice is hereby given that the 2024 Annual Meeting for regular members of the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) will take place on Tuesday, November 19 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time in the Herbert Hall Alumni Center, 698 Mills Road, West Point, New York 10996. The business of the meeting will be to elect a Chair, Vice-Chair, five members to our Board of Directors, and six Advisors at Large.
