At the Army West Point vs. Rice football game, two generous classes came together to demonstrate the enduring spirit of support for their alma mater. The Class of 1979 celebrated its 45th Reunion with a generous contribution of $544,306, which supported the Class of 1979 Climbing Wall at Arvin Gymnasium. Class President Gene McIntyre and Vice President Dave Freshwater proudly presented the gift. During their reunion, many classmates had the chance to visit and experience the enhanced climbing wall firsthand, seeing how their gift directly impacts cadet life and training.
Likewise, the Class of 1989 marked their 35th Reunion with an extraordinary gift of $1,575,000 in support of the Army Cyber Institute (ACI) and the Center for the Study of Civil-Military Operations (CSCMO). Class President Warren Hearnes, Fundraising Chairmen John DeBlasio and Neil Creighton, and Participation Leader Robert Cooley represented the class on the field. This gift strengthens West Point’s commitment to cyber and civil-military operations and fosters innovation in these essential fields.
These remarkable contributions highlight the lasting impact of alumni support on West Point and its future leaders. Gifts like these play a vital role in maintaining the Academy’s Margin Of Excellence, ensuring cadets have access to cutting-edge facilities and programs. Thank you to the Classes of 1989 and 1979 for their continued dedication to “Strengthening the Line” and paying it forward for future generations of cadets to maintain the “top of the line” status!
