Army Baseball Selected for Athens Regional

Categories: Cadet News, Athletics

The Black Knights were selected for the NCAA Athens Regional during the tournament selection show on May 27, paired with No. 7 national seed Georgia, No. 2 regional seed UNC-Wilmington and No. 3 regional seed Georgia Tech. The team will face Georgia on Friday, before that day’s results determine Army’s next opponent in the double-elimination bracket. Army will participate in its sixth consecutive NCAA Regional in 2024. The Black Knights punched their ticket to regionals by virtue of defeating Navy on May 20 in the Patriot League Championship Series. The Black Knights’ six consecutive conference tournament titles represent the nation’s longest active streak of league championships.

Army enters the NCAA Championships with a 31-21 record, a 16-8 Patriot League regular season record and a 4-1 postseason record to date. The program will make its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and its 12th regional. Army goes to the Athens Regional for the first time and will play at an SEC regional site for just the second time (2004, Baton Rouge).

Host Georgia stands at 39-15, with a 17-13 SEC record and a third place finish in the SEC East. UNC-Wilmington snagged the No. 2 seed, claiming the Coastal Athletic Association’s automatic bid as conference tournament champions. The Seahawks finished 39-19, with a 20-7 conference record placing them second in the regular season standings. Georgia Tech secured an at-large berth to the regional, finishing 31-23 and 15-15 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets slotted fourth in the ACC Coastal Division standings.
