Douglas Warren Salzmann hailed from Jackson, MO. He was in companies I-2 and D-4. He was commissioned into Signal Corps and stationed in the 25th ID in Schofield Barracks, HI. He was known for his academic ability and dry sense of humor. Warren was a philosopher more than a soldier, and when the time came he passed up graduate school and teaching French at West Point because he didn’t want one more day in the Army beyond his original commitment. He got out of the Army in the recession of 1982-83 with no job for over a year, which led to divorce from his wife at the time. Warren ended up working for Texas Instruments (TI) in Dallas. After almost 15 years he decided TI was too institutional and defense related for him, so with saved and invested money he quit to get a PhD in astrophysics, which resulted in separation from his second wife. Warren passed in October of 1997 and is survived by his mother, brother, and three sisters. We have missed and will continue to miss the presence of our brother Warren Salzmann until we meet him in a better place.
