Army West Point Hockey defenseman CDT Mac Gadowsky ’27 has been selected as a Hobey Baker Award Top-10 Finalist, announced March 19.

The Hobey Baker Award is an annual award given to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player. It has been awarded 44 times. It is named for Hall of Famer Hobey Baker, who played college hockey at Princeton University and died shortly after World War I.

Gadowsky is the first player in program history to receive the honor after his historic 2024-25 campaign for the Black Knights. He was named Atlantic Hockey America’s Defenseman of the Year while also earning the conference’s Individual Sportsmanship Award.

He finished the season with 16 goals and 42 points on the campaign, the most in the country among any blueliners. His goal total was fourth in the AHA while his points total was second in the league. He logged 33 points in 26 conference games, for a mark of 1.27 points per contest. His honors throughout the season included a pair of AHA Defenseman of the Month honors while receiving Defenseman of the Week recognition five times. His 42 points marked the most from any Army skater in the AHA era, as he was the only player in the nation to record over 40 points and over 40 blocked shots. Gadowsky finished the campaign with 33 points across his past 20 games and had seven games with three or more points this season, the most from any skater in the country.

The 10 finalists were selected by voting from all 64 Division I college hockey head coaches, as well as online fan balloting. This year’s winner will be chosen from this group by the 30-member Selection Committee, along with an additional round of fan balloting that will run from March 19-30 on the Hobey Baker website. Vote for Mac Gadowsky here.

The Top-10 Finalists will be narrowed to three “Hobey Hat Trick” finalists by the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Selection Committee on April 3, 2025. The winner will be announced on April 11, 2025 during the Frozen Four weekend in St. Louis, Missouri. For more information on the 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, click here.
