CDT George Engels ’26 made a significant impact on the U20 USA Men’s Rugby team at the 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy in Edinburgh, Scotland. The rising student athlete has started in every game for the Eagles except for one and served as the forwards captain in the second match against Canada during the qualifiers.
The squad kicked off the tournament against the Netherlands on July 2. Engels started at No. 4 and helped his team secure a 44-33 victory over the Dutch. Engels then started at No. 4 against Uruguay, contributing to a 32-15 upset victory that advanced the USA team. Next, the USA Men’s U20s defeated Kenya 30-17, securing a place in the World Rugby U20 Trophy final against Scotland.
Engels started at No. 4 in the championship game. However, the home team defeated the US 48-10. Engels will be back in action for the Black Knights this upcoming fall on September 7 when Army hosts Indiana.
