On September 5, 2023, 46 members and guests of the West Point Society of Annapolis (WPSOA) and members of the 50-Year Affiliation Class of 1975 held an Affirmation Dinner and Ceremony for eight exchange cadets from the USMA Class of 2025 and their parents. The exchange cadets are attending the United States Naval Academy for the Fall semester and were unable to join their class in the Affirmation Ceremony held at West Point.
The ceremony was held at O’Brien’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Tavern in Annapolis, MD. WPSOA President Steve Heinecke ’77 began the ceremony by explaining the significance of the Affirmation Ceremony and the role the WPSOA has had in administering the Oath of Affirmation to USMA exchange cadets over the years. Steve then introduced MG (R) James “Spider” Marks ’74, who addressed the exchange cadets on the significance of the Oath of Affirmation, and why they should begin to focus on a leadership style that will prepare them to face the personal and military challenges that lie ahead. MG (R) Marks then administered the Oath of Affirmation to the exchange cadets and members of the Class of 1975 presented them with their Commemorative Affiliation Coins.
One of the missions of the WPSOA is to support traveling cadets. By doing so, we support West Point in Annapolis and the greater Maryland Community.
