West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is the Alumni Association & Foundation for the United States Military Academy (USMA). Our mission is to serve West Point and the Long Gray Line; our Vision is for the Long Gray Line to be the most highly connected alumni body in the world.

Margin of Excellence

What is it?

Each year approximately 15% of the resources available to the Academy come from private funding. Federal dollars fund the requirements necessary to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission in the United States Army.

WPAOG seeks private funding for additional developmental programs that go beyond the core elements to create the Margin of Excellence.

Cadet Activities

There are 137 clubs at West Point made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence. This robust extracurricular program includes a myriad of athletic, recreational, academic, religious, hobby, and diversity clubs – something for virtually every interest.

Academy Scholars

The Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIADs) program and domestic internships enable cadets to perform research alongside leaders in organizations related to defense, government, policy, diplomacy, and national security. Thanks to private support, these unique experiences broaden cadets’ perspectives and provide them with practical advanced education related to their field of study.

West Point Facilities

With donor support over the past 20 years, WPAOG has delivered over 50 completed gift-funded buildings valued at over $250 million. Current renovations include Michie Stadium, Egner Hall, and the Cyber and Engineering Academic Center (CEAC).

Cadet Research and Academic Centers

Projects Day highlights academic excellence and showcases leaders of character who think critically, internalize their professional identity, and will employ their education to help build the Army and the nation’s future. During Projects Day, departments feature the projects their cadets have worked on during the academic year made possible by private support. In 2022, West Point’s 23rd annual Projects Day showcased more than 400 research projects by over 1,000 cadets.
