A Walk Through History – on the Greens The West Point Golf Course has always been world class, but now it will also be like walking through American history! Each of the 19 holes on the course is (now) named after a conflict that the United States has fought, and each one-ton granite marker is inscribed with a narrative on the war (particular to that marker), significant contributions made by West Point graduates, the total number of US casualties, and the total number of USMA graduate casualties. The historical information on each inscription was contributed by Colonel John Vigna of the USMA History Department.
The Thayer Hotel has sponsored this program that honors all soldiers who have fought for the US since the Revolutionary War. “We believe every graduate will be proud to hear about this, and it will be appreciated by the cadets, officers, NCOs and tourists that play golf on this beautiful green,” said Dan Rice ’88, a member of the Thayer Hotel management team. “We hope that it will also be a psyops campaign to use to intimidate teams that come to play against the Army golf team!” The West Point Golf Course is open to the public and has over 6,000 tee times available each year.
