2012 Thayer Award Recipient Former Congressman Ike Skelton (MO) is the recipient of the 2012 Sylvanus Thayer Award. For more than thirty years, which included six years as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Skelton was a unique and highly effective champion for the military, as well as military families. During some of our nation’s most trying times, his foresight and focus on the national defense shaped the armed forces and the means by which the American military is employed, led, and resourced.
