Cadets experience many activities above and beyond the classroom and military training that enhance their leadership training. These activities are referred to as “Margin of Excellence” programs, and they benefit every cadet. Margin of Excellence Programs include three main areas: Cadet Activities, Academy Scholars, and Athletics.

Directorate of Cadet Activities (DCA) 
DCA provides a variety of opportunities for cadets to get involved. With over 100 clubs, 3 restaurants/snack bars, a theater, Bookstore, Cadet Store and several publications to include Bugle Notes and the Howitzer (yearbook), every cadet benefits from DCA programs. Academy Scholars 
West Point strives to offer many real-world experiences to enhance the cadet’s education and develop well-rounded officers. Many of these valuable programs that extend education beyond the classroom are not federally funded. These programs include internships, research programs, cultural immersion programs and academic competitions. Athletics
Army Athletics provides cadets the opportunity to compete at their highest level of ability. West Point has twenty five competitive intercollegiate athletic teams that emphasize "winning championships", leadership development, growth in character, ethical conduct and sportsmanship.
